Rush-Henrietta; 12. Bosco; 13. CBA; 14. Westfield; 15. Rush-Henrietta. More to come. CBA's top three were all under 13.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 2:25 PM

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 2:18 PM
  • In the immortal words of the late Jack O'Reilly, the long-time P.A. announcer at the Penn Relays, "Are you ready? Are you reallllllllllly ready?" As the boys from the G race are bringing home, it is time to give way to the Eastern States Championship! Stopwatches ready?
    by Brett Hoover 2:11 PM
  • The boys' varsity F race produces a local champion — Konrad Surkont of Stuyvesant — with Sheepshead Bay right behind. Looks like Surkont's team is battling St. John the Baptist for the title.
by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 2:06 PM
  • There are some great teams and runners readying for the Eastern States Championships — from Tim Ball of Piscataway (N.J) to Dustin Wilson (Chesnut Hill, Pa.) to Nick Ryan (Fayetteville-Manlius, N.Y.) — but can anyone catch CBA (led by Tim Gorman) or St. Benedict's Prep Edward Cheserek? Gun fires at 2:15 pm.
    by Brett Hoover 2:03 PM

  • Chariho boys of Rhode Island take the stand as champions of the boys' varsity "B" race.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 1:59 PM
  • The final boys' varsity race before the Eastern States Championship is the 'G,' featuring Smithtown, Washingtonville and Shenendehowa — three New York teams who could make some noise — along with McKee Staten Island Tech, which is one of New York City's best teams. This race is another one that appears to be anyone's for the taking. Gun goes off at 2:03 pm. The F boys are on the course now.
    by Brett Hoover 1:57 PM

  • Jon Lee of Shoreham Wading River takes home the individual title in the boys' varsity 'E' race. Lowell takes 2-3 with several more close behind.
by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 1:54 PM
  • Okay. Time check. Boys' Eastern States in 25 minutes. Girls' Eastern States now in less than an hour. Get ready!
    by Brett Hoover 1:51 PM
  • Okay, the boys from varsity D are catching their breath, those in E are closing in on the finish and the F boys are rarin' to go. St. John the Baptist (N.Y.) — ranked 12th in NYS Class A — looked great in winning the Six Flags meet two weeks ago and now is looking to win the boys' varsity F race. But watch out for St. John's Prep (Mass.), ranked 18th in its state, and Bethlehem (N.Y.), ranked 18th in Class A. That race is slated for 1:51 pm.
    by Brett Hoover 1:50 PM

  • CBA of N.J. isn't the only CBA making noise as Brendan Smith of Christian Brothers in Albany won the varsity boys' "D" individual title.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:42:24 PM 1:42 PM yesterday
  • The boys' varsity E race, ready to go at 1:39 pm, features a good field. Cicero-North Syracuse (N.Y.) and Lowell (Mass.) could be the favorites, but look out for Somers (N.Y.) and Pearl River (N.Y.) as both squads were ranked in the top 10 in Class B before taking last weekend off. Shoreham Wading River (N.Y.) is currently No. 8 in Class B and could just as easily steal this one. You could see this race being one of the deepest of the day.
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:38:21 PM 1:38 PM yesterday

  • Mountain Lakes (N.J.) provided the individual winner of the Boys' Varsity "C" as Stephen Lewandowski was the first across the line.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:36:22 PM 1:36 PM yesterday
  • Boys' Varsity B is in the house, C is on the course and D is lining up. Scheduled for 1:27 pm, Lincoln Sudbury (Mass.) is a team to watch for sure, but also keep an eye on Brewster with Justin Maguire. The Bears haven't totally put a race together this year, but if they can they'll have a shot. But if you have to pick, go with Walt Whitman (N.Y.), the 11th-ranked class A team in the state.
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:24:07 PM 1:24 PM yesterday

  • Mark Marcella of Cheriho (R.I.) wins the boys' Varsity B, leading his and mates to team title.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:19:29 PM 1:19 PM yesterday
  • Quick recap of the freshman champions:
    Boys A — Quinn Cooney (Chelmsford), 6:05.71
    Boys B — Benito Muniz (Carmel), 6:03.16
    Boys C — Jake Johnson (Colonie), 6:06.38
Boys D — William Colgan (Green Meadow), 6:03.83
    Boys E — Kaushik Pilar (Shaker), 6:12.23

Girls A — Emily Carmichael (Thousand Island), 6:57.58
    Girls B — Bianca Delucia (Patchford-Medford), 7:14.18
    Girls C — Tyra Wynn (Queensbury), 7:02.50
    Girls D — Emily Crounse (Shenendehowa), 7:07.86
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:11:07 PM 1:11 PM yesterday
  • La Salle College (Pa.) — ranked No. 10 in the Keystone state — just might be the favorite in the boys' varsity C, but the race appears to be wide open. Pawling (N.Y.) is ranked fourth in NYS Class C, but generally it is very hard for a small school to win at Manhattan. Champlain Valley (Vt.) is another team to look for as it has been, historically, among the best New England teams.
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:10:49 PM 1:10 PM yesterday

  • Thomas Awad of Chaminade wins in 12:58 in the varsity A. John Jay EF and Ryan Phillips of Regis go 2-3. Collegiate looked very good.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:06:15 PM 1:06 PM yesterday
  • Quick recap of the sophomore champions:
Boys A — Mike Higgins (Don Bosco), 13:35.50
    Boys B — Thomas Slattery (Chaminade), 13:47.87
    Boys C — Ryan Depinto (Syosset), 13:35.62
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 5:02:21 PM 1:02 PM yesterday
  • Boys' varsity 'A' is on the course. The boys' varsity B is up at 1:03 pm and three New York teams — Guilderland, Baldwinsville and Bronxville — are all quality programs that could place well. North Hunterdon (N.J.) is also a contender here. None of the Pennsylvania teams are ranked in the state's top 10, but keep an eye on Pleasure Ridge (Ky.). If you're coming this far for a race, you just might be good.
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 4:58:40 PM 12:58 PM yesterday

  • Tayla Williams of Notre Dame Bishop Gibbons won the final race before the varsity boys.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 4:56:30 PM 12:56 PM yesterday
  • The first of eight straight varsity boys' races starts in five minutes. The first race features Warwick Valley, which is skipping the Eastern to run in this race. A perennial NYS power, Warwick might be flying under the radar with a No. 10 ranking, book for it to put together a break-out race here. Morris Hills, ranked No. 9 in New Jersey, is also a contender.
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 4:47:25 PM 12:47 PM yesterday

  • La Salle's Courtney Dawless wins and her teammate was second.

by Tim Fulton via mobile edited by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 3:35:38 PM 11:35 AM yesterday
  • Less than three hours until the nation's top team (CBA) and top runner (Edward Cheserek) take flight in Van Cortlandt. The invincible girls of Fayetteville-Manlius will be tested by No. 3 Saratoga and No. 4 Tatnall in little more than three hours.
by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 3:29:44 PM 11:29 AM yesterday

  • Maggie Malone and Jenna Farrell (r) went 1-2 in JV race with Farrell setting a 15:12 meet record.

by Brett Hoover 10/9/2011 3:12:07 PM 11:12 AM yesterday

  • Christian Brothers' Scott Zapcic took the title in JV A, but the team score is close between CBA and St. Anthony's.
