Cross Country Weekend Review
It was a soggy start to the New York metro high school cross country season this past weekend, but that didn't dampen the performance of Bronxville sophomore Mary Cain, who crushed the course record at the Randolph Invitational in New Jersey. Not only did she take 12 seconds off the course record, she won her race by about a minute-and-a-half.

Blackbird Invitational
Fonda-Fultonville SweepsFrom Section 2 Harrier
Fonda-Fultonville sweeps varsity races. Boys over Berlin, 35-87, and girls over Mechanicville, 54-91. Stillwater's Victoria Hathaway wins girls' individual title in 20:52, 28 seconds ahead of Fonda-Fultonville's Kim Geniti. Voorheesville's Joe Becker wins the boys' title for the home team in 17:37, eight seconds ahead of Fonda-Fultonville's Matt Hoffman.
Central Bucks East Invitational
North Penn duo goes 1-2From PennTrackXC
Dan Davis and Jack Macauley of North Penn both ran 16:55 to finish 1-2 over Central Bucks East's 1-2. North Penn finished with three in the top five to score 35 points and defeat the host school Central Bucks East by 29. For the girls, Meghan McGovern won the race for the second year in a row, this time with a lot more comfort. Her time of 18:59 was 1:17 better than 2nd place. The Central Bucks East top five put on an impressive performance, going 4-5-6-7-8 with a spread of 23 seconds led by Louise Hukki to win the team title with 30 points.
Cherokee Challenge

Cherokee runners produced the fastest times of the day in both the boys' and girls' competition at the 16th annual Cherokee Challenge. The Chiefs' Megan Lacy resumed her rivalry with Bishop Eustace's Holly Bischof by winning the girls' senior class race by a three-second margin in 10 minutes, 54 seconds.
CHSAA Practice Meet
Phillips repeats, SJB and Holy Trinity winRyan Phillips of Regis repeated at champion but St. John the Baptist beat Regis 22-35 for the title. The Holy Trinity girls dominated with an 18-47 win over Ursuline as Holy Trinity's Caroline Brown won in 16:56.
East Syracuse Minoa Invitational
Manahan opens with win in 16:23From Syracuse.com
Marcellus junior Ryan Manahan outdistanced a field of 154 runners to easily capture the East Syracuse Minoa Invitational boys varsity race. Victoria Campanian of South Lewis won the girls varsity contest. Manahan turned in a winning time of 16:23.1. He was followed by Baldwinsville's Alec Peinkofer (16:29.3) and CBA's Brendan Smith (16:43.3) who is also on the top runner's list. The Bees took first place as Andy Fleming finished sixth (17:06), Josh Perez eighth (17:21) and Matt Pond 11th (17:34). Click here for video highlights.
Ed Springstead Invitational
Shaker boys win bigFrom Shaker Running
The Shaker boys successfully defended their title in the Springstead Invitational with another dominating performance to sweep the varsity, jayvee and frosh races on the team's home course. In the 10-team varsity race, Shaker finished with 24 points to easily outdistance Queensbury and North Babylon, each with 89 points. Mike Libruk and Jon Vallecorsa again ran 1-2 to lead the charge of Bison runners with a fast finishing mile that opened up a gap on Kris Moran of North Babylon who had run a couple of 9:18 3200m races during the spring Outdoor season. Guilderland Invitational
Shen's Predmore wins in mudFrom the Times-Union
Prior to the race, Lizzie Predmore didn't have a game plan in her mind as she prepared to compete on a muddy and slippery course at the Guilderland Invitational cross country meet. Given the fact that the Shenendehowa senior could rely on her natural ability, Predmore didn't need a game plan Saturday afternoon in the 5-kilometer (3.1-mile) race at Tawasentha Park. JFK 4K Classic
East Aurora sweepsEast Aurora girls dominate 21-86 over Williamsville North as EA runners sweep the top three places. Kalen Sullivan of West Seneca West wins in 12:40 on the 4K course but East Aurota boys are too much for the field as they tally 28 for the win. Click here for a photo gallery from Section6Runs.com.
New Hartford Invitational

The Cicero-North Syracuse boys and girls teams both won their respective races. The Northstars Anthony Lupia (18:07.2) easily took the boys race, followed by V-V-S Seth MacDonald (18:30.5) and teammate Neil Gill (18:40.5). Westhill's Jessica Curry (2-:41.6) won the girls varsity race, while C-NS runners Nicole Watterud (20:57.6) and Jacqlynn Halstead (21:07.4) were second and third.

Quad X Invitational
La Salle wins relay titleFrom PennTrackXC
The La Salle boys took home the overall relay title with a time of 45:17, with an average of 5:39 per mile. Germantown Academy was second with an overall time of 46 minutes even. For the girls, Central Bucks South was the top Pennsylvania team, finishing second with a overall time of 57:40. Delsea of New Jersey won the relay with a time of 56:03.

Though neither the Voorhees' boys or girls teams finished their respective races after sundown Saturday night at the Randolph Invitational, both squads experienced shining moments under the lights at Freedom Park. Click here for a look at the boys' race.
South Jefferson Invitational
Beaver River and Canton look strongFrom Syracuse.com
The Beaver River boys team and Canton girls team were winners that Spartans Invitational. The Beavers' Logan Kempney (17:26.50) won easily over Mexico's James Gowans (17:49.90) and South Jefferson's Nicholas Taylor 18:28.60. Canton's Laura Pierce (20:39.2) just edged out Beaver River's Karlee Duffer (20:40.90) while South Jefferson's Jackie Miller (21: 46.90) was third.
Washingtonville Wizard Invitational
Arlington boys score perfect 15The Arlington boys placed 2-3-4-5-6, running 16:01 to 16:32, and scored a perfect 15 points because Eldrid did not have five runner. The race winner was Alex Campanella of Eldrid in 15:55. The Washingtonville boys, North Rockland girls, and Arlington girls all won team titles. Holly Cavalluzzo of Valley Central ran 18:46 for the fastest time of the day. Brewster's Justin Maguire ran 15:44 to win his race by almost a minute, while teammates Charlie Carr and Adam McIe did not race.

Fonda-Fultonville Invitational

Averill Park's Andrew Tario (16:25.88) and Fonda-Fultonville's Michael Scott (16:52.26) win individual boys titles. Voorheesville's Sawyer Cresap (20:36.55) and Gloversville's Kellie Lawton (21:37.14) take individual girls titles.
Niskayuna XC Ekiden
Shaker boys open their seasonFrom Section 2 Harrier
Leah Triller of Holy Names takes the individual title over Colonie's Jackie Malecki by 29 seconds to lead her Holy Names team to the team title by 16 seconds over Niskayuna. The team of Triller, Kaylee Scott, and Molly Allen broke the course record previously held by Niskayuna from last year. Shaker's Mike Libruk defends his individual title as Shaker takes the first seven spots and goes 1-2 in the team race as they split up their top runners into different teams.
John Sharp Viking Invitational

After finishing second to Pennsbury in each of the last two years at the Sharp Invitational, the Bucks took advantage of the Falcons' absence (the Pennsbury boys ran) to down intra-district rival Central Bucks East, 85-101, for the girls' crown. West, led by junior Gretchen Krause (fourth) and sophomore Meghan Iatarola (seventh), averaged 12.2 seconds faster than the runner-up Patriots' first five girls, though the dual-meet score between the two teams would've been 26-28.
McDaniel-Baxter Invitational
New format proves successfulThis was the 44th McDaniel-Baxter, but the first time it was held as a relay event. The course was a hilly 5K course. The first runner in each race ran 1350 meters, the second runner 1450 meter, and the third runner 2200 meters. Four "large schools" — Binghamton, Elmira, Maine-Enwell and Owego — and five "small schools" — Chenango Valley, Chenango Forks, Windsor, Susquehanna Valley and Afton — participated.
