Youth Jamboree Approaches

posted on 9/29/2011

The ING New York City Marathon is not far off (Nov. 6), but that doesn't mean that the host New York Road Runners are taking a break from their youth mission.

Point of proof — more than 1,200 boys and girls will participate in the New York Road Runners Youth Jamboree on Oct. 23 from 7:45 am to 4:00 pm here at The Armory.

Fun, low-competition events are held for boys and girls in kindergarten to fifth grade during the first session and sixth to eighth grade during the second session. There will be a 55-meter dash for those in pre-kindergarten at 1:30 pm (participants must be at least four years old).

High school students are invited to participate in the 55-meter dash and 800-meter run during the second session. There is no cost of admission to the Jamboree. Children of all experience levels, particularly beginners, are welcome. Each participant receives a t-shirt and event ribbons.
