It's Training Day
In honor of today's release of the 2011-12 training registration information and forms for The Armory,we are offering a number of stories and links which pertain to training.
With the ING New York City Marathon rapidly approaching, we check in on the hosts of that events — the New York Road Runners — for tips and advice on where to run in Gotham. While Bob Glover has a number of Central Park loops spelled out, the current issue of New York Runner also details running tracks from around the boroughs.
How about our own Natasha Hastings, who recently claimed gold as part of Team USA's 4x400-meter relay at the IAAF World Championships in Daegu, South Korea? The A. Philip Randolph High graduate has a health and wellness column on the Huffington Post and yesterday posted tips on injury prevention, stressing the body's need for rest.
You could easily think the Taylor Wells of New Balance has no time for rest. After all, she owns and operates four yoga studios and a raw food cafe and authors cookbooks. She is also the mother of five. Yet she has the time to help visitors to the New Balance website find their flow — both balance and motivation. Oh yeah, she is also a Super-Mom blogger.
Speaking of super moms, Chaunte Lowe, the American high jump recordholder, missed out on the World Championships despite resuming her training this year just two days after giving birth. Now, this isn't sound advice for anyone else in the world, but it is interesting to read about her training and challenges as she gears up for London 2012.
And finally, some culinary tips for the lonely distance runners. Peter Jaret of Runner's World set out to discover real chefs who are also marathon runners, because who could better know how to mix healthy nutrition and great taste? So if you are interested in breakfast smoothies, penne with turkey meatballs, oatmeal risotto or manna bread, check out the Secrets of the Marathon Chefs.
Happy training!
