AT&T Athletes of the Week, Vol. 1
The first AT&T Armory Athletes of the Week have been announced and the awards go to Robert Rhodes, a senior at Boys & Girls High School in Brooklyn, and Kadecia Baird, a junior at Medgar Evers College Preparatory School in Brooklyn.
Each ran a great early-season time at the Jim McKay Games on Sunday and also brought home victory on a 4x400-meter relay.
Rhodes - who was third in the nation last year in the 600-meter run - clocked a 1:22.68 at McKay, a great early season time. Last season he actually broke the 1:20 barrier. Along with winning that individual event, he ran leadoff for B&G in the 4x4, winning in 3:29.41 with teammates Curtly Renwick, Kerwyn Sutton and Joel Johnson.
Baird - a native of Guyana - has already dipped below 40 in the 300-meter run, an impressive feat for December. Last year she had run 39.40, nearly a top 10 time in the nation. She also anchored the Evers' 4x4 to a 4:04.77 victory, following teammates Ashley Tasher, Paige Thompson Charles and Kenisha Pugh.
The AT&T Athletes of the week will be awarded by the Armory each week for the entire season.
