Conference Call

by Brett Hoover — posted on 10/28/2011

Get this, there will be more than 80 college conference championships taking place across the nation on Saturday and about 100 overall between Friday and Monday. And no place in the nation does a better job with all of it than our friend Tom Lewis at the United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association. Here is a look at the NCAA Division I championship page, which highlights all 32 of the championships this weekend.

Elliott Denman and Brett Hoover will be at the West Windsor Fields in Princeton, N.J., providing coverage for the Ivy League Heptagonals. That meet is traditionally run at Van Cortlandt Park, but ongoing construction caused the League's coaches to look elsewhere for 2011. Princeton is favored to repeat on both the men's and women's side, but both Cornell and Yale have been charging hard on the women's side this season. Perhaps the best place to stay informed in-meet will be at HepsTrack.com. Come back in the evening to check out Denman's take on the events of the day. Race times are 11 am for the men and noon for the women.

New Paltz will host the State University of New York Athletic Conference (SUNYAC) Championships on Saturday, beginning at 11 am with the 6k women's race followed by the 8k men's race at noon. Ten schools will take on the course laid out over Bowdoin Park in Wappingers Falls with the goal of hoisting the SUNYAC Championship trophy in triumph.

Additionally, three different conference meets — the MAAC, the CUNY and the Skyline championships — will be run through the hills of Van Cortlandt Park and the Bronx. Tim Fulton previewed Vannie's weekend XC-palooza earlier today.
