Wilson Changes Focus
Joe Lanzalotto has reported on NJRunners.com that Ajee Wilson, the IAAF World Junior Champion for 800 meters, has deferred entrance to Florida State University for a year to pursue a spot on Team USA's 2013 World Championship team.
Wilson, who graduated from the Monmouth County Academy of Allied Health & Science this summer, had competed for Neptune High in the past, but ran primarily for the Juventus Track Club out of Philadelphia this past year. She ran in a number of high profile events, including the Millrose Games at The Armory, before clocking 2:00.91 — the second-fastest time ever for a high schooler — at the World Juniors in Barcelona, Spain.
Wrote Lanzalotto: "Wilson believes the continuity with [Juventus] Coach [Derek] Thompson will be a key factor in a successful bid to make the team for the championships which will be held in Moscow, Russia next August. A four-year honor student in high school, Wilson fully intends enter college after the Worlds."
But Wilson was non-committal about which university she'd attend or whether she would compete collegiately.
