AT&T Athletes of the Week, Vol. 2
The AT&T Armory Athletes of the Week have been announced and this week there is a share for the boys.
Two pole vaulters — Iona Prep's Greg Gallagher and St. Anthony's Michael Brunoforte — put on a show at the CHSAA Relay Carnival on Sunday, each clearing 15-0. Gallagher took the victory based on fewer misses. Gallagher — who is looking at several of the East Coast's elite institutions — has already expressed his desire to clear 16 feet before the season is over. Brunoforte cleared 15-3 last spring at the New Balance Outdoor Nationals.
Anima Banks of Mamaroneck — who won the state 1,000m run over Bronxville's Mary Cain last year in Ithaca — won the 600-meter run at the Section 1 Kickoff Meet at The Armory on Sunday, posting the nation's best early-season time of 1:33.90. There was only a single runner within seven seconds of her on Sunday.
The AT&T Athletes of the week will be awarded by the Armory each week for the entire season.
