Jager, Ritz Join Lagat, Levins & Lalang In 2 Mile
Last year at the Millrose Games, eight-time Wanamaker Mile winner Bernard Lagat took down Galen Rupp's 5,000-meter American record within hours of Rupp breaking Lagat's two-mile standard down in Fayetteville, Ark.
This year Lagat is looking to reclaim his two-mile record at Millrose and there is an unbelievable amount of firepower chasing Rupp's 8:09.72 with him.
Just today it was announced that joining Lagat, double NCAA champion Cam Levins and 5k college record holder Lawi Lalang of Arizona will be 2012 American record holder in the steeplechase Evan Jager, former American 5k record holder Dathan Ritzenhein, former NCAA 1,500m champion German Fernandez and U.S. Olympian Andrew Bumbalough.
Simply put, this is quickly becoming one of the greatest two-mile fields ever assembled.
"I couldn't be more excited about how this race is coming together," said Millrose Games Meet Director Ray Flynn.
Just for fun, the world indoor record in the event is 8:04.35 set by Ethiopian great Kenenisa Bekele in 2008.
That mark couldn't be broken, could it?
