Millrose: The New Era
The Armory is getting more attention than ever before as the Millrose Games are moving uptown Saturday night. George Vecsey of the New York Times visited on Wednesday and wrote about the change in today's paper.
He wrote:
Like any track buff, [Dr. Norb] Sander is enthusiastic about the possibility of records on Saturday night, when current stars like LaShawn Merritt, Jenny Simpson, Sanya Richards-Ross and Matt Centrowitz will be competing. In keeping with the changing times, the meet will be streamed live starting at 4 p.m. — on YouTube. It’s what the younger generation is watching, Sander said.
The uptown Millrose Games are also honoring the athletes who once made the Garden crowds roar. The high jumper John Thomas will be there. The Fordham star Tom Courtney will be there. And the Chairman of the Boards will be there, to see his son run but also to honor the Millrose Games themselves.
