No. 2, Meet No. 1

by Saudia Mitchell — posted on 2/4/2013

Kadecia Baird of Medgar Evers ran the second-fastest 300-meter dash in high school history on Saturday at the Armory Collegiate Invitational. The only woman to run faster — Francena McCorory — was on hand to meet with her afterward.

Baird was clocked in 37.54 (not far in front of Cardozo's Deajah Stevens' 37.90), one of the 12-for-12 U.S. national No. 1s in the high school and junior events at the ACI.

McCorory was in town to root for her Hampton Pirates (and work in a little shopping). The U.S. Olympic relay gold medalist will be one of the star attractions in the 400-meter dash at the Millrose Games on Feb. 16.
