Olympians Abound in 400m

Five women Olympians — including three gold medalists — will be competing for 400-meter supremacy at the Millrose Games on Feb. 11.

Three members of the winning U.S. 4x400m relay at the Beijing Games — Sanya Richards-Ross, Natasha Hastings and Mary Wineberg — are set to square off with Guyanese star Aliann Pompey and Jamaican bronze medalist Shereefa Lloyd.

Sanya Richards-Ross

An Olympic gold medalist in the 4x400m relay, Richards-Ross is also the American record holder in the 400m dash (48.70) and a World Champion in the individual event at Berlin in 2009. Broke the national high school indoor record in the 400m at The Armory in 2001.

Natasha Hastings

A global gold medalist in the 4x400m relay in each of the last five years (Olympics, 2008; Outdoor worlds, 2007-09-11; Indoor worlds, 2010), Hastings grew up in New York City and attended A. Philip Randolph High School in Harlem.

Aliann Pompey

A native of Guyana who has competed for her homeland three times at the Olympic Games, Pompey is a familiar figure at The Armory. The Manhattan College graduate serves as the director of the Armory College Prep program.

Mary Wineberg

A Brooklyn-born runner, Wineberg struck Olympic gold with the U.S. 4x400m relay at the 2008 Beijing Games. Now an assistant coach at her alma mater University of Cincinnati, she and her husband have a daughter named — Brooklyn.

Shereefa Lloyd

A native of Jamaica, Lloyd was primarily a straight sprinter when she arrived at Texas Tech, but soon developed into a quarter-miler. In fact, she won a bronze medal with the Jamaican 4x400m relay in Beijing in 2008.
