Time Off For Cheserek
Last fall Edward Cheserek of St. Benedict's Prep in Newark, N.J., left a stunning trail of broken records wherever he roamed.
But according to Jim Lambert of the Star-Ledger, that won't be the case this fall. In fact, Cheserek may not run at all this fall as he focuses on the SAT.
"His grades are good, but he needs to take the SAT in October and perhaps again in December so he gets the Clearinghouse and all of that behind him," Coach Marty Hannon told Lambert. "Our No. 1 priority and the bottom line is that Edward will focus on his studies and the SAT, which means he won't be racing or visiting any colleges until we get this behind us."
Coach Hannon hopes his Foot Locker National champion "will be racing by the end of October or early November," but couldn't rule out a scenario where Cheserek would miss the entire cross country season, including a potential defense of his national title.
His focus on the SATs indicates his interest to attend and compete at an American university. Cheserek is on the recruitment list of most major Division I programs and would be a prized addition to any program.
