Wilson Takes Down World Mark
Note to Alysia Montano. Eighteen-year-old Ajee Wilson is anxious to meet you at the Millrose Games.
Those two are squaring off in the 600-meter run on Feb. 16, but last night at the NYU Team Challenge at The Armory, Wilson broke that event's World junior record, finishing the three laps in 1:27.30.
Here's the rundown on the records she took from the books:
The World junior record had been held by Great Britain's Linsey Macdonald, who clocked 1:27.4 back in Dec. 1981. The American junior record was held by Janine Davis, then a New Jersey high schooler, who ran 1:29.27 back in 2005. Today Davis serves as the Associate Director of Track & Field and Educational Development here at The Armory. Wilson also claimed Davis' facility record.
Wilson and Montano, America's top 800m runner, will be going after Delisa Walton-Floyd's 1981 American record of 1:26.56 at Millrose.
