EUGENE, Ore. – Trentavis Friday set the national high school record in the boys’ 100 meters here on Saturday afternoon in the preliminary round of the USATF Juniors Championships, running 10.00 in Heat I, with a legal tailwind of +1.6mps.

Friday, a recent graduate of Cherryville High School in North Carolina, broke the previous record of 10.01, set six years ago by Jeff Demps of Florida. Friday is scheduled to attend Florida State University in the fall.

In the second semi Trayvon Bromell, a freshman at Baylor, won in 10.08. Bromell set the world Junior record on this track at the University of Oregon in winning the NCAA championship several weeks ago, at 9.97. Friday’s time of 10.00 is the 2nd-fastest ever run by a Junior.

In March Friday won both the 60 and 200 at this year’s New Balance Indoor Nationals at the Armory, running 6.64/20.97.

Bromell and Friday were scheduled to meet in the 100 final on Saturday evening.
