Armory College Prep

Students Studying at Armory Prep

Armory College Prep — now in its 10th year — serves New York City high school student-athletes, in need of a helping hand, to realize their full potential. This year, more than 250 students will receive the academic support, individual counseling and encouragement necessary to gain admission to college and a clear picture of how to pay for it.

At Armory College Prep students apply the skills they acquire as athletes — discipline, dedication and hard work — to overcome the hurdles they face on the path to academic and social success, resulting in benefit to both themselves and their communities. More than 90 percent of all Armory Prep students matriculate; many the first in their families to do so.

Armory Prep is headed by four-time Olympian Aliann Pompey, a former NCAA 400m champion for Manhattan College, where she earned both bachelor's and master's degrees. Pompey has worked for Armory Prep for five years now, this being her third season overseeing it.

The 2013-14 Armory Prep program will offer the following services:

• SAT Prep Classes
• Khan Academy Building Math Skills
• Foreign Language Instruction
• College Level Writing Training
• Financial Aid Counseling
• College Counseling
• Paid Application Fees
• College Visits and Tours
• College Personal Essay Writing Coaching
• Athletic Coaching
• Individual Tutoring
• Nutrition Counseling

Armory College Prep is open to students who train and compete at The Armory. Those interested in the program are encouraged to contact Aliann Pompey, by stopping by the Classroom 2 Everywhere on the first floor of The Armory, by email [apompey@armoryfoundation.org] or by phone [212.923.1803 x7017].
