Gloucester MA, coached by Pat Barry, shattered the National DMR Record by 11 seconds!  Their time of 9:59.94 broke the record, set at the National Scholastics Championships in 1998 by West Springfield (Va) in 10:10.30.
The possibility looked real when, in late February, the Gloucester quartet had an outstanding day at the Massachusetts State Meet: Otieno was 55m Champ (6.57), Milne was 1000m runner-up (2:34.45), Palazola was 1600m champ (4:16.84), and Tristan Colangelo added a State 2 Mile gold (9:25.23) to his growing war chest of hardware (Millrose Mile & Dartmouth Mile ).  Assuming Ireland's St. Malachy will again descend upon the Penn Relays with its usual array of middle distance talent (sub 10:00 winner in 1999), an intriguing matchup looms.
The Splits: Josh Palazola 3:04.1, Ngai Otieno 49.5, Shawn Milne
1:56.4, Tristan Colangelo 4:09.9.

Colangelo anchors in 4:09.9 with only history (and lapped runners) to motivate him

Josh Palazola sets the table (3:04.1)
