CAN
SOMERS 3-PEAT? OR
SOMERS- The Tuksers are the 2 time defending champs and want to make it a dynasty by winning there 3rd consecutive Class B Championship. Andrea Nash will lead the team in the sprints and jumps, Mary Alice Howard will spearhead the distance crew. Kate Cannon, the defending New York State Champion in the race walk is back, and so is Pole Vaulter Rachel Cassasta(the Section 1 Outdoor Record Holder at 109)
PEARL
RIVER- Prior to 2004, the Pirates had won 19 straight sectional
championships!! The Pirates always fill every event, and with Samantha Stadt back as well as pole vaulter
Emily Powers and a promising young group of distance runners,
The
#3 spot could be a battle between Woodlands,
CLASS C/D
BRONXVILLE IS THE CLEAR FAVORITE IN CLASS C/D
BRONXVILLE- The Broncos won last years Class C meet by 124 points, and with distance stars Amanda Hudson and sophomore Virginia Connor plus junior sprinter Leigh Murphy they should again win the Class C Championship. Freshman Olivia Bruton is very versatile and could score in both the sprints and the distance events for the Broncos.

600 METERS ( 1:34.0 NANA HANSON HALL NEW ROCHELLE 2002)
Kristin Reese won the Class A Championship in 1:36.0 last winter in her only race at 600 meters, and considering she was in the second heat and not really pushed who is to say that she can not take a crack at Nana Hanson Halls 600 section record. Also Kara McKenna of Suffern ran a very impressive 1:36.38 at last seasons Stanner Games.

1000 METERS-(2:53.42 KRISTIN REESE CARMEL 2005)
Last winter at the state qualifier, Reese ran 2:53.42, which was a Section 1 Record and New York State Freshman Class Record. Reese, along with Kara McKenna (2:55.1 last winter) and Alana Levy (2:57.6) could take a crack at the Section 1 Record.
1500 Meters-(4:35.20 AMANDA HUDSON BRONXVILLE 2005)
At the State Qualifier meet last winter, Bronxville senior Amanda Hudson not only won the 1500, but ended up setting the section 1 record and in the process posted the second fastest time in the state. With Kristin Reese (4:57.27 mile) and Kara McKenna( 4:58.10 mile and 4:39 1500), there are potentially three runners who could have a shot at taking down the record.
MILE-(4:57.27 KRISTIN REESE CARMEL 2005)
At last years Hispanic Games, Kristin Reese set the standing Section 1 record in the mile with a 4:57.27 placing her second. Sufferns Kara McKenna finished third in that same race with a 4:58.10 clocking. Bronxvilles Amanda Hudson, the Section record holder in the 1500 meters (4:35.20) is also a legitimate threat to break the record. If all three girls can get into the same race the record may very well go down!
3000 METERS (9:58.8 KRISTIN REESE CARMEL 2005)
Last year at the Northern County Championships, Kristin Reese ran virtually all by herself to set the Section record. Kara McKenna that same day ran a Rockland County Record 10:06.6. Also look for Shelby Greaney of Suffern (10:07.8 last spring) and Virginia Connor of Bronxville(10:06.91 last spring) to challenge both Reese and McKenna. The full 2 mile record of 10:44.95 by Maribel Sanchez could possibly be broken as well.

RELAYS
4x200m Relay
(IN NO PARTICULAR ORDER)
WHITE PLAINS-1:46.27 last Winter-
Broke 4x100 Section 1 Record last spring, returns all 4 members of squad. (Whitney Ford-Simond Ford-Renne Mcdougal-Julie Anderson Lee)
Update 11/30/05: Rumor has it that two members of the returning White Plains 4x200 are out. Senior Julie Anderson-Lee will sit out the indoor season and sophomore Renne Mcdougal has transferred to a private school.
SUFFERN- 1:44.41 last Winter
Have won the 4x200 State Championship in 3 of the last 5 years and with Deanna Vinson plus sisters Jennifer and Janelle Clayton, Suffern is primed once again to have a very strong 4x200. The defending Section Champs also have a good core of young sprinters to choose from to complete the squad.
NEW ROCHELLE- 1:44.25 Last Winter
With
MOUNT
VERNON- 1:44.62 Last Winter- Mount
4X400m Relay
SUFFERN- 3:52.88 LAST WINTER
The Mounties were New York State Federation Champions in the 4x400 in both the Winter and Spring seasons last year, and even though the have lost both Dede and Kay Kay Richemond, Suffern should have a strong contingent of runners lined up for this relay. Deanna Vinson, a member of last years indoor state 4x400 team should be the staple of this relay.
NEW ROCHELLE-4:07.1 LAST WINTER
May
focus more on the 4x200, but when the Huguenots run this relay they are going
to be damn good at it.
SOMERS- 4:07.43 LAST WINTER
Andrea Nash will lead this squad along with Mary Alice Howard. The Tuskers were second in the Westchester Millrose trials last year, and look to run in the 4:00 range or possibly faster after running 4:05 last spring without current sophomore Avery Faeth. Faeth has split under 61 on numerous occasions and missed most of last spring with stress fractures.
BRONXVILLE- Bronxville ran 4:19 last winter, but outdoors ran 4:00.98 to finish second for Division 2 teams at the New York State Championships. The Broncos return 3 members of that team.
MOUNT VERNON- 4:08.0 last winter at the Class A champs. Clocked a 3:59.7 last spring and return 3 legs from that team including junior Katya Martin.
4x800m Relay
SUFFERN
Set the Section 1 Record last winter with a 9:06.14, and was National Champions. They were also the runner up at the state meet and return 3 members of that national championship team.
BRONXVILLE
Always has a deep distance crew, and this year will be no different. The Broncos ran 9:22.58 last winter, and have many distance studs to choose from. It definitely will not be a surprise if Bronxville runs faster this year
SOMERS
Somers ran 9:33.33 at the Eastern States last winter and have 3 girls returning this winter from that team including Mary Alice Howard.
9:35.07 last winter. The Pirates will again have a strong 4x800 relay. Samantha Stadt and Michelle Farrell will probably be the keys to this relay, but others will step up for Coach Dan Doherty as well.
Also
look for strong 4x800s from
