Meet Report
Course records both fall
-
even in
high temps and humidity.
Girls Division I

TEAM
Washingtonville won the title
67-71 over Northport in the closest team battle ever at the
meet. These teams finished last year ranked #15 and 16 in
NYC AA and they seem to be headed toward a season long battle
again.
INDIVIDUAL
Danielle Karagannis (right) of
Northport took the girls Div I after John Jay-CR's Jacquie Kehoe
took it out hard on a course she knows very well. After
Kehoe was dropped a bit in the woods, the race was between Karagannis
and Washingtonville's Clark, who had won the previous two
weekends. Karagannis was only the 3rd girl ever to
break 20:00 on the course when she crossed the line.

RIGHT: girls in Div I at the mile mark.
Girls Division II

TEAM
There really was never a doubt
that Pearl River was going to win this one, though Somers gave
it a run for a while. At one point, through 4 girls, it
was tied, but Pearl River's depth and strength took over in the
2nd half of the race and they easily won 33-60. The
Pirates set a course record for team average (20:47), breaking
Somers record.
INDIVIDUAL
While a few girls took it out
hard early on, Mary Alice Howard took control on the first hill
and never looked back. Pearl River's Samantha Stadt was
about 25 yards back at the mile mark but Howard had doubled that
by the 1.25 mark. Her winning time of 18:58 broke her own
course record by 37 seconds and she won by 33 seconds.
Stadt's time of 19:30 is the 2nd best in course history.
Boys Division I

TEAM
Danbury, CT makes the short trip
across the border to take the boys title 28-45 over
Washingtonville. Danbury took charge early and while
Washingtonville hung for a while, Danbury just had too much.
INDIVIDUAL
Washingtonville's Andy Clyne won
for the 2nd time this season with a 16:20 course record that
stood for 30 minutes. He took the lead in the back woods
to win by 18 seconds over Danbury soph Willie Ahearn,

Boys Division II

TEAM
Pawling boys upset the hosts 32-38
with great top 4. Pawling should be a force in Class C this year as they upended
the defending Class B State Champions. Somers showed their
depth with 10 guys under 19:10.
INDIVIDUAL
Somers Alex Bean
was never challenged as he won by 39 seconds and shattered his
own meet record by 21 seconds. Beaten hasn't been beaten
on his home course since 2003, his rookie year.

Pawling soph Colby Delbene and Somers senior Josh Kneer battle
for 2nd which Delbene won, 16:47-16:48.

The Pearl River girls team, who have won 26 straight Sectional
titles, broke the team time average record at Somers HS with
their 20:47. The Lady Pirates also swept the top 5 places
in the JV race.

Meet Preview
Girls Division I
TEAM
Washingtonville and Northport finished last
season ranked #15 and #16 in NYS AA so they should be ready to
bang heads early on. Washingtonville beat North Rockland
31-54 last weekend on their home course so NR may have a chance
to sneak up on a neutral site. John Jay-CR are the
defending champs and 2004 runner-up New Rochelle looks a lot
better this year. It could be a tight battle.
Delaware Valley, PA is a sleeper since we have no info on them.
INDIVIDUAL
Krista Clark (Washingtonville)
Jaquie Kehoe (John Jay-CR)
Danielle Karagannis (Northport)
Jenna Naglieri (No. Rockland)
Amanda Walsh (New Rochelle)
Lauren Boardmen (John Jay-EF)
Kristen Majkowski (East Meadow)
Clark is the favorite after wins at Tri-Valley
and Wizard the last two weeks. The rest of the girls seem
to be pretty equal. Walsh is the defending champ but she
has struggled with illness this summer.
Girls Division II
TEAM
Pearl River and Somers are the front runners.
Last year the two Sectional rivals finished the year ranked #2
and #5 NYS B and Somers has never beaten PR in XC ever. PR
won the Wagner meet last weekend but the home course advantage
could help Somers close the gap.
INDIVIDUAL
Mary Alice Howard (Somers)
Samantha Stadt (Pearl River)
Erica Planamento (Harrison)
Julie Hudak (Pearl River)
Suzie Clinchy (Somers)
Howard is the defending champion and course
record holder. She was 4th at States last year, 3 spots
ahead of Stadt. A course record could be at stake for the
winner. Challengers are Planamento (coming back from an
injury), Hudak (was PR's #2 last weekend) and rookie Clinchy,
who's making her debut this weekend but has proven to be a
strong training partner for Howard. Once again - will the
home course help the Tuskers?
Boys Division I
TEAM
Northport and Washingtonville could be close and Danbury, CT has
had some great teams over the last 5 years, so they could be in
the mix as well. How good is Delaware Valley, PA? We
can only guess. This race seems to be wide open.
INDIVIDUAL
Matt Terry (Danbury)
Brian Ivory (John Jay-EF)
Andrew Miller (Northport)
Tom Daley (Mahopac)
Andy Clyne (Washingtonville)
Clyne could be the favorite as he won his home invit last
weekend (Wizard) with a solid speed rating (174).
Danbury's Terry was their top runner at states last year as a
freshman so one can expect him to be improved this year.
Miller has done some great running over the last few years and
Daley could put together a fine race. Ivory is another
runner with some good races under his belt.
Boys Division II
TEAM
Somers is the defending NYS Champions in Class B
though they are Class A this year. They won last year's
race 22nd points and a 17:10 average. Their top 4 may be
better than last year, the only question being how fast will
their 5th man run. Pawling could challenge Somers with a
good race with their deep squad. Lynbrook could be in the
mix as well as Bayport.
INDIVIDUAL
Alex Bean (Somers)
Chris Miller (Westlake)
Doug Swiatocha (Somers)
Josh Kneer (Somers)
Colby Delbene (Pawling)
Brian Fulton (Pawling)
Luke Mannion (Kennedy)
The race should be Bean's for the taking.
He was 7th at states last year and was generally 30-45 seconds
faster than all of the runners in the race. He's the
defending champ and course record holder. Miller could be
the one to push Bean if he's as much improved as I think he is.
Kneer was 5th last year and should be much improved from that.
Swiatocha is always in the mix to be a 16:45 guy and the Pawling
guys should mix it up in the pack for a while as well.
Kennedy's Mannion has shown flashes of the ability to stay with
the pack with a good race.
