New Yorker's
miss first major storm of the season for Footlocker
Nationals in San Diego, CA.
Can Ryan Repeat?
After placing 2nd at
Footlocker Regionals in 2004, Aislinn ran a 3K race at
West Point in 9:47.0, a NYS Jr. Class record that was
later lowered by both her and Nicole Blood. The
following weekend she won her the Footlocker National
title.
This year she did the
same thing, ran a 3K race at West Point, but this time
she ran 9:45.8. She could be peaking at just the
right time again just like last year.
But NY has two other
potential champions in Nicole Blood and Caitlin Lane.
Everyone knows by now the story about them leaving the
famous Saratoga team and they both looked great at
regionals and poised to improve on their performances
last year where they seemed to run out of gas at
Footlocker Nationals.
After NY showed they
had the best 2 teams in the country last weekend at Nike
Team Nationals, could NY go 1-2 in the girls race?
The way they've been running, it wouldn't shock me.

The
stage was set for a rematch fans have been waiting all
season for - Aislinn Ryan vs. Nicole Blood. It was
something we saw 6 times last year - spoiling us I
guess. This time it was Blood over Ryan, 17:42 -
17:50. Blood ran the exact same time to win last
year. And for those who think Ryan looked a little
sluggish, what should be scary for her competitors is
that she only ran 3 seconds slower this year.
NY showed their
amazing depth again with 7 of the 10 tickets to San
Diego going to them and NJ proved they're pretty good
too with two spots to them.
There
are all sorts of storylines but one of the toughest was
Suffern, NY freshman Shelby Greaney earning the last
qualifying spot by passing senior teammate Kara McKenna.
McKenna's 18:10 non qualifying time is believed to be
the fastest ever to not go. Last year 10th place
was 18:33. (average place for 18:10 time over the last 6
years has been 3.6)
1. Nicole Blood NY 17:42
2. Aislinn Ryan NY 17:50
3. Caitlin Lane NY 17:52
4. Lindsey Ferguson NY 17:55
5. Danielle Tauro NJ 17:55
6. Liz Costello PA 18:00
7. Briana Jackucewicz NJ 18:01
8. Liz Deir NY 18:01
9. Hannah Davidson NY 18:08
10. Shelby Greany NY 18:09
As
for the boys, it was hard to tell just how good the Taye
brothers were coming in, but 15:21 and 15:29 proved they
are legit. Noel Bateman stepped up big time after
skipping NY Feds last weekend. Greg Kelsey also
had a big race. Connecticut is sending two runners
and Tradelle Ward makes it two runners from Griswald in
the last three years as well as having this years first
non-qualifier, the same spot Ward was in last year.
1. Ayalew Taye MA 15:21
2. Sintayehu Taye MA 15:29
3. Noel Bateman NY 15:32
4. Greg Kelsey NY 15:34
5. Tradelle Ward CT 15:35
6. Brian Rhodes-Devey NY 15:36

8. Jay Koloseus CT 15:38
