The Fourth Annual New Balance Armory Collegiate
Invitational 1. Rules of Competition Competition will be governed by the active editions of:
Colleges
- the NCAA Track and Field/Cross Country Men's and Women's Rules, with
exception as needed by meet management.
The meet referee is Mr.
John Chaplin, of Pullman, Washington.
The track is a 200-meter
banked 6-lane Mondo track. The lanes are 36" wide. The horizontal jumps are
contested in two parallel pits. The women's runway is 53 meters, or 173
feet, in length. The men's runway is 54 meters, or 178 feet in length. The
pole vault runway is 45 meters, or 147 feet, in length. The runways are
Mondo. The high jump is contested at both ends of the infield; two high
jumps can be conducted simultaneously. The Mondo straightaway is 8 lanes and
60 meters. The lanes are 48" wide. The weight throw will be thrown at
Manhattan College 5 miles away. Only bag weights can be used. For seeding purposes, lane priorities will be:
In the 200, 400, 500 and
4x400, the order of lane priority will be 5-6-4-3-2-1. In the 200 meters, lanes 2 through 6 will be used in the preliminaries and 3 through 6 in the finals. The finals will be 2 sections; the faster section will be run last. In the 400 meters, all lanes will be used in the preliminaries and 3 through 6 in the finals. The finals will be run in two sections, with the faster section last.
All college entries must be submitted electronically through DirectAthletics or by using the link on the Armory website www.armorytrack.com. Teams that do not yet have a password will be assigned one. Entries close at noon EST Tuesday, Feb. 3, 2004. Events will be seeded on Wednesday, February 4, with the exception of the 4x400s, which will be seeded the following Tuesday, Feb. 10.
All heat and lane
assignments will be posted on the Armory website by 6 p.m. Thursday,
February 5. The names of all athletes accepted in individual events will be
posted on the website. 5. Entry fees
College teams - $200 per
sex. The college competition is conducted in two divisions, Championship and University. The Championship division is limited to approximately 12 teams per sex. Competition will be combined in the weight throw, 4 x 800 meter relay, distance medley, 500 meters, 1,000 meters and 5,000 meters, but separate awards will be given.
Selection of the divisions
will be announced on January 5, 2004 Events will be scored 10 points for 1st place, 8 for 2nd, 6 for 3rd, 5 for 4th, 4 for 5th, 3 for 6th, 2 for 7th and 1 for 8th. There will be separate scoring for each division and sex. Trophies will be awarded to the top three teams in each division for each sex. In those events with timed sections, all competitors are eligible to place and score. In those events with combined divisions (5k, DMR, weight throw), all performances will be used to determine the scorers. Scored events will consist of those contested at the NCAA Division I Championships.
8. Open Events 9. High school events In the 4x200 and 4x400, there will be 6 teams per sex. In the 4x800, the fields will be limited to 10 teams per sex. The fields in the 2 mile runs will be limited to 12 per sex.
The lists of accepted teams
will be posted on the Armory website on Wednesday morning, Feb. 4, 2004. 200 meters
- Lane 1 will not be used in the preliminary round. The fastest 8 finishers
in the preliminaries will advance to the final, which will be conducted in 2
sections of 4 runners each. 400 meters - The fastest 8 finishers in the preliminaries will advance to the final, which will be conducted in 2 sections of four runners each. Heat I of the final will be comprised of the slowest 4 qualifiers, Heat II the fastest 4. Final places will be determined by comparing times. Lanes 1 and 2 will not be used in the finals. Assignments and lanes in the heats and finals will be seeded. Lane 1 will be avoided where possible in the prelims. The fields will be limited to 60 competitors per sex in the University division, 30 per sex in the Championship division. 500 meters, 800, 1000, mile, 3,000 - The competition will be conducted using timed sections. Where there are consecutive heats, the fastest runners will run last. The size of the fields will be limited to: 500 meter run - limit 18 per sex; 50 800-meter runners per sex in the University division and 30 per sex in the Championship division; 1000 meter run - limit 20 per sex; 36 male milers and 26 female milers in the University and 24 per sex in the Championship; 36 male 3,000-meter runners an 18 female runners in the University and 18 3,000 per sex in the Championship division. 5,000 meters - The field will be limited to 18 runners per sex. There will be one heat, comprising both divisions.
4 x 400 - No
qualifying times are necessary, but to be seeded a team should submit its
best time for the 2003-04 indoor season, no later than noon Monday, Feb. 9.
This may be done by fax (212-923-2146) detailing the name, date and location
of the competition. Teams will be assigned 4 x 800 -- This event is not scored. The fields are limited to 12 teams per sex. The race will be run in 1 section, regardless of division. Distance medley - Sections will be divided by seed time, not division. The fields will be limited to 24 teams per sex. No B relay teams will be permitted.
Field events
- The order of competition will be seeded, with the best entrants competing
in the final flight. The top 8 plus ties will advance to the final.
Finalists will compete in reverse order of
High Jump 24 men
and women university, 18 men and women championship The weight throw will be conducted as a combined competition, with the top 8 competitors, regardless of division, advancing to a single final. Bag weights only. 10. Awards Trophies will be given to the top three teams in each division for each sex. These awards will be made on the infield immediately following the final event. Coaches and team members are asked to stay for the ceremonies. Trophies will be awarded to the Outstanding Competitors, chosen for each sex, in each division, in the college competition.
Medals will be awarded to
the top 6 finishers in every high school and college event, including all 4
members of the appropriate relay teams.
Teams will be issued two
passes per sex. An additional trainer's pass will be issued upon request.
