Saratoga girls over Hilton 46-47 in AA race but Hilton by 8 in the merge of all classes.

Saratoga boys shock US#1 Fayetteville Manlius 39-43.

It was a perfect day for XC in one of the best regions in the country for HS XC, NY's famous Section 2.  The weather was crisp but gorgeous, the best weather for a state meet in years, and the races were everything they were billed to be.

The course was beautiful, with sprawling grass fields used for the start and finish, wide open well groomed trails that were lined with spectators switch-backing for better viewing, and an atmosphere that seemed to be one of the best state meets of recent memory.

Saratoga proved once again that they are the best program in the country, but this time they did it with the boys squad, as they bested US#1 Fayetteville Manlius 39-43.  The individual crown went to Guilderland's Brian Rhodes Deavey, who's one tough runner.  Deavey outlasted Saratoga's Steve Murdock in a sprint for the finish.

The Saratoga girls would not be outdone.  Running 2 hours after the boys, the girls beat Hilton 46-47 on the strength of their 2-3 finish by Hannah Davidson and Lindsey Ferguson.  HIlton packed the team in to recover 7 of the lost 8 points up front, but the apparent injury to usual #1 runner Amanda Griggs, who finished as the teams 3rd runner, was just a little too much to overcome.

The boys Class A individual battle was all it was billed to be as Garden City's Charles white made up almost 35 yards over the final 400m to break Somers Alex Bean's heart 15 yards from the tape.  It was a showdown that had been talked about all season.  Queensbury had the honor of running away with a team victory on their home course.

The longest State title winning streak in the state was snapped this year as East Aurora avenged a 1 point loss last season by beat HFL in the girls Class B race.

The Bronxville girls won their 5th state title since 1999 with 29 points.  Virginia Conor was caught by Samantha Stedman in the final 200m for the individual crown.
