New York Road Runners Club

October 1, 2005

Dear Athlete:

CONGRATULATIONS on you fine performance at the 2005 Manhattan College Cross Country Invitational and for qualifying for the ING New York City Marathon Invitational presented by Road Runner High Speed Online, a 2.5- mile race on Marathon Sunday, November 6 (girls race: 8:30 a.m., boys race: 8:45a.m.), ending at the marathon finish line by Tavern on the Green in Central park.  The races will be taped and televised later in the day on WNBC, the host broadcaster of the ING New York City Marathon.

Both the Manhattan High School Invitational and marathon Invitational are part of the New York Road Runners High School Grand Prix, a four-event series that rewards top local schools for distance running.  The 2-mile runs in the Bishop Loughlin Games and Hispanic Games are the third and fourth events.  Your coach has full details about the series.

All athletes will pick-up race numbers between 7:00 am and 8:00 am at Bandshell*.  At registration, athletes will receive their free race t-shirt and race packet and be able to drop off a bag and have some water. The 2.5-mile course goes from the Bandshell to the actual ING New York City Marathon finish line, and celebrity runners will start the race and hold the finish line tape.  At the post-race meeting area, you will able to retrieve baggage, meet up with friends and family, and receive awards (for the top 15 boys and girls) and refreshments.  For further information about the race, please call Louis J Vazquez at 212-923-1803 ext 14.

We are also pleased to offer you and up to four guests complimentary grandstand seating at the ING New York City Marathon.  From these seats, which you must reserve in advance and be in by 10:30 a.m. on November 6, you and your friends and family will have a great view of the marathon finish line.

The number of participants and grandstand seats is limited.  If you are interested in running this event, and in reserving grandstand seats for the marathon, please fill out the attached form and mail it to the address specified.  You must submit this form by October 21.  The entry list will be posted on the Friday, October 28, at www.armorytrack.com.

We are pleased to be able to continue this program and hope you will join us as we add a new chapter to the storied history of the ING New York City Marathon.  Be sure to visit the New York Road Runners' Web site, www,nyrr.org, the marathon Web site at www.ingnycmarathon.org, and our site devoted to competitive running-fast-women.com and mensracing.com-to keep up eith what is going on at our organization and in the sport.

Yours in Running,
