CHSAA Weekly XC Poll - Week ending November 2

No change in poll from last week.

1. St. Anthony
2. St. John Villa
3. Kellenberg
4. St. Francis
5. Sacred Heart
6. St. John the Baptist
7. Archbishop Molloy
8. Holy Trinity
9. Bishop Loughlin
10. St. Joseph by-the-Sea
11. Christ the King
12. Bishop Kearney
13. Bishop Ford
14. Mary Louis
15. St. Joseph Hill

But I'll go out on a limb, and say that things change at championship time.
Seven teams will battle for the title, and the state meet. Three have a
legitimate chance to win- the other four, long shots- everything has to come
up big, and up-front teams have to have off day.

1. St. Anthony- impressive at CHSAA Freshman/Sophomore meet. They are the
favorite to win. It's not perfectly clear-cut, but there are just too many
ifs for the other teams.
2. St. John Villa- must get maximum production from their three seniors, who
won the title as sophomores. Any less than that and they could fall a few
places.
3. Kellenberg- I think they'll come up big in this race. Whether it will be
enough to offset Villa's front three is debatable.
4. St. John the Baptist- just enough from Parrott to offset St. Francis
front four.
5. St. Francis- dangerous team with fifth girl problems. This year, it costs
a few teams.
6. Sacred Heart- beat SJB last week, but in this field, SJB comes back.
7. Molloy- coming on, and could move up a few notches, but probably not
enough to win.
8. Holy Trinity- big 1-2 punch will keep them at No. 8.
9. Loughlin- the best of the rest.
10. Could move up a notch. Need Carlin to have a big race.
11. Christ the King- improving, but can they beat a team like Sea?
12. Bishop Kearney- lack the punch that they had up front last year.
13. Bishop Ford- one good runner, need more.
14. Mary Louis- Could move up a notch or two with big race.
15. St. Joseph Hill- they have three runners, but none have performed well
at the same time. Is this the week? If they really run, can move up five or
six places.

CHSAA Girls X-C Poll (week ending October 26)

Sectional championships proved little at the top, though there were some
changes. This pollster sees little real difference between the top seven
teams. St. Anthony's will still be a slight favorite, due to having the top
fifth scorer, but will have to run to hold off several teams. Any team that
comes up with a big fifth girl in the next two weeks could upset the
applecart.
Villa gets the nod for Number 2, but only slightly over Kellenberg. St.
Francis still looks dangerous, and although Sacred Heart beat St. John the
Baptist this past weekend (by 2 points), SJB is more dangerous in the league
meet. Molloy is another team that is starting to come on.
After that, the second tier is Holy Trinity, Loughlin, and St. Joseph
by-the-Sea, with the third tier being essentially everyone else.

1. St. Anthony
2. St. John Villa
3. Kellenberg
4. St. Francis
5. Sacred Heart
6. St. John the Baptist
7. Archbishop Molloy
8. Holy Trinity
9. Bishop Loughlin
10. St. Joseph by-the-Sea
11. Christ the King
12. Bishop Kearney
13. Bishop Ford
14. Mary Louis
15. St. Joseph Hill

CHSAA Weekly Cross Country Poll- Week ending October 19.

Little change from last week. The top four teams appear to be a notch above
the next four. St. Francis could be a very dangerous team if they find a
fifth scorer. Katie DiCamillo is beginning to separate herself from the
other contenders- Davila (NDA), Pfeiffer (HT), Malmquist (Kellenberg), and Parrott (SJB).

1. St.Anthony
2. St. John the Baptist
3. St. John Villa
4. Kellenberg
5. St. Francis
6. Sacred Heart
7. Archbishop Molloy
8. Holy Trinity
9. Bishop Loughlin
10. St. Joseph by-the-Sea
11. Bishop Kearney
12. Christ the King
13. Mary Louis
14. Notre Dame
15. tie, St. Joseph Hill/Cardinal Spellman

CHSAA weekly XC rankings- through October 12. GK

Not a great deal of change on leaderboard, as past weekend proved little.
St. Anthony's ran in only underclass races-SATs? St. John the Baptist ran in
Eastern championship race, St. John Villa in varsity A, Kellenberg in
varsity F. Little to choose from top four.
Individuals had good day- Di Camillo won race, Pfeiffer strong, Davila (NDA)
looked good in running second, Malmquist ran well in her race, and Parrott
good in fast Eastern race where it was easy to give in.
Looks like a good CHSAA, both individual and teamwise.

Week ending October 12.

1. St. Anthony's

Weekly CHSAA girls XC poll- week ending 10/5/03.

Girls Leaders
A big development has taken place in the last three weeks. It's the
emergence of a new contending team, St. John the Baptist. They seem to have
a number one runner in Mary Clare Parrott, and the back runners are closing
the gap. St. Anthony's is still the top-rated squad, but not by much. St.
John Villa competed at the Peoria Invitational in Illinois this last
weekend, and was 14th out of 40 full teams. They ran on the Illinois state
meet course. The Peoria meet serves as a prelim for teams that want to do
well, so most of the top Illinois teams were probably there. Villa drops
back to third this week, but there's little to choose right now between the
top three. St. Anthony's gets the nod, as they seem to be a lot deeper than
the other two.

1. St. Anthony's
2. St. John the Baptist
3. St. John Villa
4. Kellenberg
5. St. Francis
6. Sacred Heart
7. Archbishop Molloy
8. Holy Trinity
9. Bishop Loughlin
10. St. Joseph by-the-Sea
11. Christ the King
12.Notre Dame
13. Mary Louis
14. Bishop Kearney
15. St. Joseph Hill

CHSAA girls XC rankings for week ending September 28.

Not much movement at the top, but a lot of shuffling down below. The first
seven teams have established themselves as the class of the league, and
there seems to be quite a gap between them and everyone else. Molloy is
included among the top seven as they're starting to show some signs of life.
The league is deeper at the top than it has been in years. Holy Trinity,
with the league's best 1-2 punch, could easily join the top seven.

1. St. Anthony's
2. St. John Villa
3. Kellenberg
4. St. Francis
5. St. John the Baptist
6. Sacred Heart
7. Archbishop Molloy
8. St. Joseph by-the-Sea
9. Holy Trinity
10. Notre Dame
11. Christ the King
12. Bishop Loughlin
13. Mary Louis
14. Bishop Kearney
15. Cardinal Spellman

week ending Sept. 21

Still some incomplete results- one thing is clear- St. Anthony's and St.
John Villa are the class of the league. It may be difficult to separate the
next three- Kellenberg, St. John the Baptist, and St. Francis Prep, which
ran well at the Villa Bears Classic. After that, throw a blanket over the
field. Anyone could jump six spots in a week, though Holy Trinity, with a
big 1-2 punch, is the class of this group.

Week ending Sept. 21

1. St. Anthony's
2. St. John Villa
3. Kellenberg
4. St. John the Baptist
5. St. Francis
6. Holy Trinity
7. Archbishop Molloy
8. Sacred Heart
9. St. Joseph by-the-Sea
10. St. Peter's
11. Mary Louis
12. Christ the King
13. Notre Dame
14. Bishop Loughlin
15. Bishop Kearney

CHSAA Girls Poll (week ending September 14)

Onlya few teams competed, but some interesting developments. First, the top
of the league may be stronger than anticipated. St. Anthony's defeated Pearl
River by a point at the Wagner Invitational. Second, St. John Villa is a lot
stronger than anticipated. They finished only 7 points behind at Wagner.
Third- St. John the Baptist is in the top rung of possible contenders. And
Kellenberg is also good.
Early season polls mean little, but this is a rough estimate after Sept. 14.

1. St. Anthony's
2. St. John Villa
3. Kellenberg
4. St. John the Baptist
5. Archbishop Molloy
6. Sacred Heart
7. Holy Trinity
8. St. Francis
9. St. Joseph/Sea
10. Notre Dame
11. Mary Louis
12. Bishop Loughlin
13. St. Joseph Hill
14. Bishop Kearney
15. Christ the King

Pre-Season Outlook

No need to rank teams before the season, but the top 15 is probably diovided

into three categories.

Category A

St. Anthony's- looks like the big favorite for the team title. Most of team

returns, while other contenders lost key personnel. Don't be surprised if

St. Anthony's starts off slowly. That's been the pattern over the years.

They may even fall from their top position early, but look for them to start

running well in mid-October.

Category B

St. John Villa, Kellenberg, Sacred Heart, Archbishop Molloy, Holy Trinity.

Each team has some big positives, but also some negatives.

Villa must get maximum production from Morgan Proffitt, who was injured much

of last year. They have some good young runners in Nicole Improta and Ashley

Mallen, and are led by senior Meghan McCarrick. But they also have to fill

in the fourth and fifth slots.

Kellenberg could be a main challenger. Kelsey Malmquist ran well outdoors

last year, and is expected to be one of the league's top runners.

Sacred Heart has Rolanda Bell- after that, a bit of the unknown, and could

finish anywhere from second to sixth.

Archbishop Molloy- the first senior class this year. Ran without Natalie

Lebron last year. A pretty solid group that didn't have a top scorer last

year. If Lebron runs this year, and the others move up, trouble for the

league.

Holy Trinity- Pencil in a very low score after the first two runners. They

need three more. If they get one or two, they move up considerably. If they

get three, look out.

Category C

St. John the Baptist, St. Francis, Bishop Loughlin, Notre Dame, St. Joseph

by-the-Sea, Bishop Kearney, St. Joseph Hill.

Throw a blanket over this group and pick. Each has one or two decent

runners, but mut scratch around in the back.

St. John the Baptist looks like a good bet to join the contenders. They

began to move toward the end of last cross country season.

Top contenders for individual title include Kristen Pfeiffer and Katie

DiCamillo (Holy Trinity), Maxine Davila (Notre Dame), Rolanda Bell (Sacred

Heart), and Kelsey Malmquist (Kellenberg).
