12/08 NYS GIRLS ALL STATE TEAMS

Dan Doherty releases ALL-State teams and Runner of the Year Awards.

12/04 NIKE TEAM NATIONALS

PORTLAND MEADOWS, PORTLAND, OREGON

Saratoga girls capture team title at first ever championship.  Saratoga had been voted National Champions 8 times since 1993, but now there is no debate.  And with a 51-125 margin of victory, the talk of greatest team ever continues.

Fayettville Manlius boys finish 2nd to York, Ill, who are coached by the legendary Joe Newton.  A team that seemed to rise from obscurity and gained National recognition with their all time team time record at VCP, the FM boys helped prove how good NY XC really is.

What Makes a Man Run?

People can't understand why a man runs.  They don't see any sport in it.   Argue it lacks the sight and thrill of body contact.

Yet, the conflict is there, more raw and challenging than any man versus man competition.

For in running it is man against himself, the cruelest of opponents.
The other runners are not the real enemies.  His adversary lies within him, in his ability, with brain and heart to master himself and his emotions.
