Since its inception in 1973, the Manhattan College Invitational has grown from its ambitious beginnings in the "Running Boom" years, to the most well-known high school meet in the nation at America's Cross Country "Mecca" - Van Cortlandt Park.  Sports Illustrated has called Van Cortlandt a "rite of passage" for anyone considering him/herself a cross country runner.  The many national champions, collegiate stars and Olympians that have toiled over "Tar Hill", "Rollercoaster" and "Cemetery" can attest to its mystique.  The Manhattan College Invitational has, over the years, introduced over 200,000 harriers to that legendary mystique.
