Five Outstanding Coaches to be Honored by Armory at Energice Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational

Track & Field Legendary Coaches Steve Arnett, Jean Bell, Jan Mitchell, Robert Massie and Scott Raczko to be inducted during December 18th meet  

NEW YORK, NY, November 30, 2021 – The 7th annual Energice Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational is scheduled for Saturday, December 18th at The Armory New Balance Track & Field Center

This meet honors some of the most accomplished coaches in the nation each year with the Energice Hall of Fame induction ceremony. Five new coaches will be inducted this year, joining the 35 illustrious leaders who have already been enshrined in the Hall of Fame.

 

The induction ceremony for these distinguished coaches is scheduled to take place at 1 PM on the center of the track. Reserved seating for this meet is available and can be purchased at armorytrack.com.

 

This year’s Hall of Fame class is as follows:

 

Steve Arnett, Arlington HS, NY: Arnett has coached cross country and track at Arlington since 1990, previously coaching at Cardinal Hayes and John F. Kennedy. His teams have earned 120 League and County team championships and 25 Section One XC titles. Arnett has also produced a dozen individual state champions and over 100 All-American honors.

 

Jean E. Bell, Jeuness Track Club, NY: Bell founded the Jeuness Track Club in 1985, where she continues to serve as the head coach. Located in Brooklyn, Jeuness serves girls ages 5 to 17, and has produced numerous Junior Olympians, D1 scholarship athletes, and Colgate Women’s Games champions. In addition to her coaching duties, Bell works as an administrative law judge with the New York State Department of Labor.

 

Robert Massie, Simon Gratz HS, PA: Massie coached the boys and girls track teams at Simon Gratz from 1979 until his retirement in 2011. During his tenure, his teams combined to win nine Philadelphia Public League championships, and seven Pennsylvania state championships. Massie was voted state coach of the year on 10 occasions and was named an honorary referee at the 2008 Penn Relays.

 

Jan Mitchell, Iona Prep & Ursuline HS, NY: Mitchell has been the head cross country and track & field coach at Iona Prep since 1975, as well as the head track coach at Ursuline since 1990, and he continues to lead both programs. Under Mitchell’s guidance, the two schools have produced over 1,000 Westchester all-county selections, and over 100 All-Americans. Iona Prep has also won six Catholic school team state titles during Mitchell’s tenure, in addition to the dozens of league titles won by both schools.

 

Scott Raczko, South Lakes HS, VA: Raczko has coached cross country and track for over 30 years, currently serving as the head coach at South Lakes. He is best known for coaching Alan Webb in high school and beyond, guiding Webb to indoor and outdoor high school records in the mile. More recently, South Lakes won the Virginia indoor state championship this past March. Raczko also coaches numerous elite runners, including American record holder Keira D’Amato.
