Armory College Prep (ACP) students Maya Moore and Astia Innis recently joined a distinguished group of sports figures and television personalities to help present awards during the 37^th Annual Sports Emmys at Jazz at Lincoln Center in New York City.

Moore and Innis shared the stage with Bill Raftery and Tracy Wolfson (CBS Sports), Michelle Tafoya (NBC Sports), Ernie Johnson and Shaquille O’Neal (Turner Broadcasting) and Scott Van Pelt (ESPN) among others. Nominations were announced in 40 categories including Outstanding Live Sports Special, Outstanding Playoff Coverage and Outstanding New Media.

“It was exciting and surreal to be in the presence of such important people,” said Moore. “I was inspired when they announced our names and talked about our academic and track and field accomplishments during the middle of the program.”

Moore is a senior at Taft Educational Campus and won the long and triple jump during this past indoor season’s Bronx Borough Championships at The Armory. She will continue to compete at Guilford College and plans to major in creative writing. 

Innis, also a senior at Taft, finished second in the Bronx Borough Championships long jump and 55m dash. She will attend Williams College in the fall and plans on majoring in biochemistry.
