Early Season Girls Top 40 XC Teams 2025Published by
Lone Peak UT Opens Season At No. 1, Looks To Move Up One Spot At NXN; Buchanan CA Gets Chance To Shine This Weekend At Woodbridge By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor 2025 Girls Early Season National Rankings With the full scope still coming into focus in mid-September, it is clear that there a lot of really good girls cross country teams out there, and they are all over the place. Colorado, of course. But Vermont, Tennessee, Arkansas, Minnesota, Indiana, South Dakota, New Jersey ... there is a lot of geographic diversity. All nine regions have at least three teams who register into the Early Season Top 40. Topping them all is Lone Peak UT, a team that brings back five runners from last year's runner-up finish at Nike Cross Nationals. Lone Peak brings a pack mentality to season. They Knights may not have the lowest of low sticks, but junior Maya Bybee leads a team that doesn't take a big number at No. 5. The recent Liberty Bell Invitational continued to reveal a new power rising in Colorado and that's Heritage, which make it's debut at No. 5, led by Emry Schwalm. This weekend's Woodbridge Cross Country Classic presented by ASICS, in Irvine, Calif., will illuminate the top of the order of teams across much of California. No. 2 Buchanan, a serious national title threat, will get a test from Paige Sheppard and No. 4 Union Catholic NJ. PREVIEW Colorado powerhouse Niwot CO, with senior Addidon Ritzenhein leading the way, opens at No. 3. Another team making a big splash early this fall is Ann Arbor Pioneer MI, which recently won the MSU Spartan Invitational. The battle for the Midwest also features Carmel IN. Wayzata MN, coming in at No. 8, will race at the Roy Griak Invitational this weekend. PREVIEW Tennessee has a pair of outstanding teams with Brentwood at No. 7 and Webb of Knoxville at No. 10.
