Top Five Holds Steady Heading Into Massive State Meet Weekend; No. 1 Lone Peak Wins Utah State Title By Doug Binder, DyeStat Editor There are 22 state meets lined up this week plus numerous state qualifying events that are testing the best girls cross country teams in America. On Wednesday, Lone Peak won the Utah 6A title for the sixth time in seven years and its performance was similar on the state meet course to 2024. In fact, leader Maya Bybee ran seven seconds slower than she did last year but the team's 2-5 runners all ran a bit faster. Lone Peak was runner-up at NXN last year and remains the pick at No. 1 despite some extraordinary teams doing great things across the country. Among Saturday's state meets, Colorado and Texas are two of the biggest. No. 5 Niwot CO, No. 6 Carmel IN and No. 7 Wayzata MN all have state meets on Saturday. The top eight have not changed since the last update. South Dakota champion Sioux Falls Christian took a big leap forward with an excellent performance last Saturday at it state meet and has joined the top 10, led by senior Ellie Maddox. American Fork UT, second to Lone Peak in Wednesday's 6A final, jumped up to No. 13 with a strong performance at Sugar House Park. Shenendehowa Central NY put together a complete team effort to win the Suburban Council Championship in upstate New York and are back into the rankings at No. 15. Mira Costa's victory at the Mt. SAC Cross Country Invitational pushed it into the top 30 and California now has five teams in the rankings. The Top 30 More news |
